Pere Herms Clapers was born on 17th September 1975 in Avinyó (Barcelona). He showed a great interest in the audio-visual world from an early age, making his first short feature at 13. He studied Image and Sound at the La Salle Bonanova University, graduating in 1999. His final film at university was “Once upon a time there was Ethiopia… the birth of a documentary”. In 2000 he studied Video- and Film-making at the Idep School (Barcelona), at which he now works as a teacher. In 2001 he directed his first documentary, “Habarigani” a piece on the work carried out by an NGO in Kenya. Since then, the Catalan documentary director has performed his own projects with the aim of using documentary as a tool to bring us closer to and more aware of peoples and cultures. In 2004 he participated as a cameraman and editor in a 3-chapter series entitled “Tribes of Ethiopia”, produced by Alma Ata International Pictures and broadcast on Televisión Española (Spanish state television) in March 2004. One of these chapters was nominated for a prize at the 2005 Biarritz FIPA Festival. In 2005 he directed a documentary series, with 4 chapters, called “Peoples of the Rift Valley”, produced by Abyssinia Films and Danakil Produccions and which is to be broadcast on Televisión Española in 2006. This year he has also been directing his latest work: “Norro, a story of female circumcision” |

Norró, a story of female circumcision - 56' | This documentary explains the history of Norró and Nohode, two Dassanetch sisters that were subject to circumcision. We will live alongside them and their family during the days before the ritual is held. Through their words and gestures we will learn what they think and why this deep-rooted tradition is practised. People of the Rift Valley - 1 x 56' | "Peoples of the Rift Valley” is a 4-chapter documentary series which shows the concerns and worries of different African people, and their lifestyles, customs and traditions. The soul of the documentaries is the spontaneity of the people, their humane essence observed and captured by a small film crew thanks to their sustained living alongside the protagonists and the trust that was built up. Tribes of Ethiopia - 3 x 52' | Few regions in the world can be described as real areas of primitive life. In southwest Ethiopia, near the Sudanese border, mountains and rivers have isolated one such region: the Omo. On the banks of Kibish river, the Omo's particular geographical situation has preserved the pure way of life of its different tribes. Habarigani - 1 x 25' | Documental que muestra los trabajos de ayuda humanitaria que la fundación Cirujanos Plástikos Mundi desarrolla en Wamba, un pueblo ubicado en medio de la zona Samburu (Kenya). Esta ONG dedica sus esfuerzos a la cirugía reconstructiva. También se hace un reconocimiento a la labor y 30 años de dedicación a los más necesitados del fundador del hospital de Wamba: el Dr. Prandoni. |
